ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH MOSQUITO CONTROL PROGRAM SEASONAL EMPLOYEE

 

Job Description/Responsibilities: Be trained in and perform activities/duties for the Ottawa County mosquito surveillance plan. Including Larval Control and Surveillance activities - Evaluate possible mosquito breeding grounds. Apply larvicide to roadside ditches, storm water catch basins, and other standing water areas to control mosquito populations. Set and collect gravid traps in various locations throughout Ottawa County to capture adult mosquitoes for lab testing. Community Outreach - provide education and educational materials to our community members through participating in community festivals, educational events, and working with our schools/summer camps. Perform Mosquito nuisance complaint investigations. Maintain accurate records as required per standard operating procedures. Maintain and store equipment in good working conditions. Perform other Mosquito control related tasks as required.

 

Qualifications: Applicants must be a full-time college student, majoring in Environmental Health, Public Health, Biology or a related science degree. Applicant must have a valid Ohio Driverís License with a safe driving history, proof of insurance and reliable transportation. Applicant will be required to use their own vehicle for the implementation of all mosquito control activities. Travel will be paid according to the current IRS mileage rates. Applicant must be able to work independently and alongside health department staff. Applicant must be dependable and have the ability to understand written instructions, policies, and procedures and have the ability to read and utilize maps. Applicant must have ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and work outside in all weather conditions and environments.

 

This seasonal employee position will be for a period not to exceed 12 weeks (49 working days), 32 hours per week, Monday-Thursday. The hourly rate for this seasonal employee will be $14/hour.
